A community-police awareness-raising event in the United States, which is annually held on the first Tuesday of August, National Night Out has been celebrated since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of town Watch in the United States and Canada.
National Night Out was created to increase awareness about police programs in communities.

Events around the country are normally organized by block watches, non-for-profit organizations, companies and police departments. These events can be as simple as backyard barbecues to full-blown festivals.
One of the largest National Night Out events is on the west side of Columbus, Ohio. the Ogden Block Watch in Columbus organizes one of the largest festivals which include live music, food and entertainment.
National Coast Guard Day is set aside to celebrate and honor the courageous work of the Coast Guard. When Hurricane Katrina struck the Atlantic coast of America, the US Coast Guard saved over 33,500 lives, an estimated 24,000 of these were rescued from peril in severely dangerous conditions.
