Plan A Solo Vacation Day

Plan a Solo Vacation Day is a celebration designed for those people who like to view the world alone. Rather than being constrained by the demands and foibles of friends and family, people like this prefer the intensity of an individual adventure.

The day itself varies in actual date, but there is no doubt about the seriousness of its purpose. Solo travellers are rarely highlighted by travel companies, who prefer to focus their marketing on families, couples and groups.

The solo traveller is a special breed, though. More spontaneous than many travellers, he or she does not like to have their travel agenda shaped by others.

While formally celebrating the day at a social occasion would defeat the object, the best way to mark Plan a Solo Vacation Day is to take a trip. Simply by planning to hit the road alone, anyone can become a part of this international celebration.

World Compliment Day

Oh, wow. You look great! Have you lost a little weight since the last time we met? And your hair! It really suits you.

Compliment Day is billed as the most positive day in the world. It’s hard to argue, what with all those compliments being passed around. There is an art to it, though. A true compliment must be genuine, or the receiver will see through it. As importantly, the receiver must accept the compliment with a heartfelt “Thank you!”. It’s no good being self-effacing; you’ll wring all the positivity out of the situation, making for a dull Compliment Day.

If done properly though, Compliment Day is undoubtedly a force for good in this crazy world. Let’s really go for it. Compliment people you’ve never complimented before. Compliment people in the street. Send a wave of positivity around your hometown. Anyone ever tell you you’re wonderful?

Horse Protection Day

Horse Protection Day was created by Colleen Paige to educate people regarding the welfare of horses.

Ideas for Horse Protection Day can range from fostering, adopting, or sponsoring a horse that’s in desperate need of some love and care, to setting up a stall to bring attention to the issue of horse welfare.

Further ideas for Horse Protection Day can include organising an adoption event in your town or city, with the help of a local animal charity, as well as organising an event to get food to horses that desperately need it in your area.

Local riding stables should also be made aware of Horse Protection Day, while you could spend the day looking after the horse of a neighbour or friend.

Humorous ways of drawing attention to the day can include dressing up as a horse and collecting for a horse welfare charity and organising a horse-themed party.

International Day of the Seal

Peanut Butter Lovers' Day

Date When Celebrated : Always March 1

Today is a sticky day. National Peanut Butter Lover's Day salutes America's favorite sandwich spread. What kid didn't grow up loving a PB&J sandwich? It's a staple in our house.

Smooth Peanut Butter is by far the most popular. Crunchy peanut butter is also on the market, and is enjoyed by many. Peanut Butter is not limited to a Peanut Butter and Jelly (PB&J) sandwich. It's popular on crackers, celery and other ""peanut butter"" holders. It is also used in recipes for cookies and snacks. And, don't forget peanut butter candies, too!

Did you Know? Peanut Butter is 90% or more peanuts. While it has no artificial preservatives, an opened jar is stored on a shelf at room temperature.

Celebrate today with a little (or a lot) of Peanut Butter. If you can, make your own Peanut Butter. Its a fun project that the kids will enjoy doing with you. See a recipe.

Noe: If you don't get enough peanut butter today, April 2and is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. and September 13th is National Peanut Day.

Pig Day

National Pig Day is an event held annually on March 1 in the United States to celebrate the pig. The holiday celebration was started in 1972 by sisters Ellen Stanley, a teacher in Lubbock, Texas, and Mary Lynne Rave of Beaufort, North Carolina.[1][2][3] According to Rave the purpose of National Pig Day is ""to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man's most intellectual and domesticated animals.""[2] The holiday is most often celebrated in the Midwest.[4]

National Pig Day includes events at zoos, schools,[5] nursing homes, and sporting events around the United States. It is also recognized at ""pig parties"" where pink pig punch and pork delicacies are served, and pink ribbon pigtails are tied around trees in the pigs' honor.[2] According to Chase's Calendar of Events, National Pig Day is on the same day as pseudo-holidays Share a Smile day and Peanut Butter Lover's day.[6] The question of whether the holiday is a time to honor pigs by ""giving them a break"" or to appreciate their offerings (spare ribs, bacon and ham) is an open question.

Fruit Compote Day

Often overlooked as baby food, compotes can be surprisingly grown-up and sophisticated if they’re prepared in the right way. It’s time to take these dishes out of the nursery by celebrating Fruit Compote Day! Compote is the French word for mixture, and almost any fruit can be used, except for strawberries, as they don’t cook well.

Fruit compotes can be made with either fresh fruits or with dried, reconstituted fruit. A very grown-up way to re-hydrate those apricots or apple slices is to soak them in cider, or even Champagne, before adding them to a mix of summer berries. Compotes can be spiced up, as well. Add a few cloves and some cinnamon to a simmering pot of plums, apples and blackberries for a warming winter treat.

To really add an air of sophistication, finely shred some mint leaves and sprinkle them over the compote to add colour and a fresh counterpoint to all that fruitiness.
