Often, carnivals are preceded by a parade. Its a away to let the townspeople know that the carnival has come to town.

Don't limit your thinking about Carnival Day to a professional carnival. There is a wide range of summer and winter carnivals. School carnivals are popular. Towns, and even businesses, hold carnivals of all types.

For Pete's Sake Day

Oh, for Pete’s sake! Not another pointless holiday?

For Pete’s Sake Day celebrates one example of a ‘minced oath’, where an offensive word or phrase is substituted by something more acceptable in society. Other examples include ‘For crying out loud!’, and ‘Sugar!’. Such euphemisms have been used for centuries whenever people hit thumbs with hammers, burn hands on hot plates, or sit on sharp things while in polite company. Why has Pete been singled out for special attention?

In the case of this particular minced oath, Pete is likely to refer to St Peter. However, if there’s a Pete in your life, why not do something for his sake? It doesn’t have to be much – making him a cup of tea or a nice sandwich would be good!

If you are Pete-less, perhaps you can celebrate by saying ‘For Pete’s Sake’ whenever you get an opportunity.

Inconvenience Yourself Day

You know those days when you just can’t be bothered to get out of bed? Well, Inconvenience Yourself Day is not one of them. So, put on your happy face and go out there and be nice! The concept may have originated from Ms. Julie Thompson and it was meant to serve as an incentive for others to acknowledge their appreciation for acquaintances or strangers and to promote a respectful attitude and an attentive demeanour. We can all celebrate by simply opening a door for an old lady, giving up a seat to a pregnant lady, helping a child cross the street, stopping to ask if a tourist is lost and needs directions, offering to carry a suitcase up the stairs and generally making a small sacrifice. But most of all, we have to reflect on what others need and how we can help. It can make a big difference!

Personal Chef Day

No, kids and husbands, it’s not the same thing as Mothers Day!

The United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA) proudly offers you your chance to serenade the single-minded, single-handed, solo pan handler and knife brandisher in your life.
They say most chefs could start a fight in an empty room so give yours some love on Personal Chef Day. The chances are you’re their only fan and also their only critic on a daily basis. Has the relationship become stale? Why not enliven it in the obvious fashion- by cooking them a meal and telling them not to hold back their opinions. Then, as a few pieces of your finest china go whizzing past your ear you can feel happy that you’ve allowed your go-it-alone gastronaut to let off steam.

More seriously, if you’re lucky enough to have a personal chef in your life, treat him extra nicely. For others, maybe there’s someone out there whom you take for granted on the food front and deserves some pampering. A school cafeteria goddess, the tea person at work or, most obviously…YOUR MOTHER!!! She doesn’t even get a fancy job title or a pretentious hat. You know what to do diners.
