Roald Dahl Day

As the Roald Dahl Day website explains:

The official Roald Dahl Day takes place every year on 13 September, on the birthday of the World’s No. 1 Storyteller. In 2012 we are celebrating 30 years of the swizzfiggling Big Friendly Giant. The BFG is famous for catching, creating and making dreams come true.

Why not enjoy a few snozzcumbers and partake in a little whizzpopping? And if for some strange reason you don’t own a copy of one of Dahl’s finest tales, make sure to purchase one from Amazon?

Programmer's Day

Programmers' Day is an international professional day recognized in many technology companies and programming firms, that is celebrated on the 256th (hexadecimal 100th, or the 28th) day of each year (September 13 during common years and on September 12 in leap years). It is officially recognized in Russia[1][2] and observed in several other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, Palestine, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea (highland region), Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States and Uruguay.[citation needed]

The number 256 (28) was chosen because it is the number of distinct values that can be represented with an eight-bit byte, a value well-known to programmers.[3] 256 is also the highest power of two that is less than 365, the number of days in a common year.

Fortune Cookie Day

Date when celebrated : Always on September 13th

This day celebrates the creation of the Fortune Cookie. What a great cookie. A little slip of paper inside of it brings you good luck, a whimsical saying, or a philosophical thought. (we favor good luck...we can use all we can get).

Its pretty clear that the Fortune Cookie did not originate in China. Rather, it was invented in California. There appears to be some uncertainty over who invented it. Some historical references suggest it was Makoto Hagiwara who invented the fortune cookie at the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco in 1914. Others believe that David Jung, founder of the Hong Kong Noodle Company, was the first to make fortune cookies in Los Angeles in the 1920s.

To celebrate this day, go grab a handful of fortune cookies.  Or, get your fill online. Online cookies are no calorie, no carb.

Defy Superstition Day

When : September 13th

Defy Superstition Day is your opportunity to break those superstitious beliefs that you have been living with most, or all, of your life. Did you note that Defy Superstition Day is celebrated on the 13th? It was established on this day for a reason.

Many people have a long list of superstitions. Tops on the list, is the unlucky number 13. Black cats are also also an object to be wary of. Walking under a ladder has always been viewed as something to avoid (actually, there is some logic to this superstition). The list goes on, and on, and on.

Did you Know? Hotels do not have a 13th floor or a room #13. Hotels usually do not have any room that ends in the #13. It's all because people are superstitious about this number.

Defy Superstition Day was created to help you to eliminate superstitions that have been haunting you. Use today as it is intended....... to blow away the superstitions in your life.
